Qiu Ying, courtesy name Shifu, was one of the Four Masters of the Ming dynasty who specialized in the gongbi brush technique.  Not only exceled in flowers, gardens, religious subjects, and landscapes in the fashions of the Ming dynasty, he also received great acclaim in painting figures especially women.  The figures under his brush were precise in shape, dignified and elegant in their appearance.  He incorporated different techniques into his paintings; this talent and versatility allowed him to be regarded as one of the Four Masters of the Ming dynasty.
