Yu You-Ren, a contemporary Chinese calligrapher whose creativity in arts was abundant. In addition to a wide study of calligraphy of Hang, Wei, and Tang Dynasty, he also mastered in running script and standard script of Zao Meng-Fu. He focused research in the rubbings of North Wei Dynasty, acquiring the spirit of all schools and eliminated the disadvantages while still remaining the advantages. He achieved the level of mastery after mastering in the rubbings of Bei Dynasty and developed “Yu Script,” a feature of his own which was based on Wei Script. In the 30s, inspired by Wang Shih-Tang’s cursive script, his cursive style changed to simplicity which contained full elegance and energy of Chinese calligraphy.
